Recycled Ideas
A recent workshop focused on bead dyeing and embellishment in fashion and textiles. Guided by textile designer Anthea Godfrey who has worked on leading national projects, students created their own beads using recycled materials such as plastic bottles and cups. Ready made old jewelry, pearls and glass beads were also dyed, mixed together and hand-sewn into different fantastic embroidery, beading and jewelry designs. Students were able to learn new skills, extend their existing knowledge and generate ideas through a different media. Many ideas were hatched and tried out with often surprising and unexpected results. Ms Godfrey had brought with her a suitcase full of different embroidery and beading designs to inspire students and encourage questions and dialogue. By the end of the session the whole studio was turned into an exhibition of beautiful beaded embroidery!
