Curriculum

A Level Programme

A two-year specialist programme focused on the visual arts with a guaranteed full-time course interview at the University of the Arts London (UAL), on successful completion of studies.

The AS Level, or first year of the A-Level programme, allows students to gain a stronger understanding of chosen subects with the aim of encouraging critical thinking and developing the necessary skills to progresss into the second year.

A focused programme of stuides, the second year (A2 level) prepares students for the dynamic, fast paced world of Higher Education and consists of two complimentary strands with the A-Level studies running alongside the preparation stage for entry into Central Saint Martins' Foundation Plus

An ambitious course, students are given the full support needed to excel and progress into the Foundation Plus and a degree course at University of the Arts London, or if preferred, another UK university.

2012-2013 Course Subjects

The A-Level programme is designed to allow students to select a programme of studies that best reflects their creative and academic strengths by studying three A-Level subjects from the following:

Creative Options

  • Fine Art (Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Sculpture)*
  • Graphic Design
  • Photography
  • Textiles

Academic Options

  • Art History
  • Business Studies
  • English Language & Literature
  • Maths

* To be eligible for entry into Foundation Plus, students are required to combine the Fine Art A-Level with one creative A-Level subject.

Students study choose further academic subject from the options above. International students with IELTS 5.0 or below will receive English as a Foreign Language as an alternative to the third A-Level/ academic option.

Portfolio Programme

This one-year course is designed for international or UK students that possess the relevant qualifications needed for university but lack the body of work and required portfolio for a course within the creative arts sector.

The Portfolio programme allows students to develop a broad set of skills and results in a portfolio that demonstrates a wide range of creative outcomes.

Following the Art & Design AS level course structure, the Portfolio programme offers a selection of skills-based workshops, set projects and additional studio sessions for students to develop work in the disciplines of fine art, photography, graphics and textiles.

The unique link with UAL means our students benefit from dedicated specialist teachers, stimulating projects and artistic opportunities often associated with higher education, with academic progression provided through the guaranteed interview for a full-time course with UAL on successful completion of studies.

The course provides ample resources in order to prepare student portfolios for the Foundation Diploma at UAL, or if preferred, at another UK university. The School provides English language teaching for international students with limited English.
