Today’s blog is guest-written by one of our A2 students, Farah Harmouzi. Farah recently, with the assistance of several fellow ISCA students, organised a charity day in order to raise money for Breast Cancer Research UK.

Denisha and I wanted to hold a charity event. Three weeks prior Ms. Owen asked for some volunteers to help run a charity event and Denisha and I gladly obliged! After two weeks of lazing around and roughly planning what we wanted to do, we then spent a week of franticly hard working in Graphics with Ms Jessop to create some visually aesthetic posters to advertise the event. The international theme decided by Denisha and myself was fed into all the posters and we announced the event, ‘Breast Cancer Awareness Month Charity Fundraiser’ on Thursday the 13th of October.

Sunday the 16th I, and a few other school mates such as Karolina Lewszyk, Sonia Birman, Alex Bich, and Wern Luk helped make some amazing and delicious cakes for the bakesale we were having on the day of the charity event. Monday came and went, then it was finally Tuesday the 18th of October – Charity Fundraiser day!

Denisha and I gave a presentation, and showed everyone a commercial made in Dubai about breast cancer awareness featuring my cousin and auntie. After that, I began to get the rest of my food ready. I made three dishes: Machbouse – traditional Gulf Arab dish, Egg & Tomato – mainly had as a breakfast dish, and Foul Maddamas – also had as a breakfast dish but three of my favorite dishes nonetheless! We had several cakes out for sale by break time, as well as my food for sale. Lessons progressed after break time however, many people bought cakes and such. We also began collecting money for people wearing pink or international costume – even the boys made an effort to wear some pink to show awareness for breast cancer! (They get it too!) During lunchtime a few people decided to skip lunch to eat some delicious Arabic food and some awesome cakes – including a lovely cheesecake. After lunchtime, lessons were happening again and then soon enough it was our afternoon break and this repetition of standing in the corridor where the cakes and food were being sold happened again.!

After school was when the real fun happened, Denisha and I had planned a Conker Competition and Twister competition! Denisha was in charge of the Conker competition and I was in charge of the Twister competition, which was extremely fun, watching your friends contort themselves unrealistically really can’t get boring! The day was a huge success, and I’m fairly certain everyone had a lot of fun including staff. The whole point of the day was for everyone to enjoy themselves, as well as raising some money for Breast Cancer Research UK! I feel both were accomplished to a great standard!

ISCA spirits are at a high at the start of a new academic year. Whilst ISCA welcomes its new batch of students into the fold, its first graduation batch are soon to be starting their university studies. A cause for celebration is certainly justified with all students gaining a place at University of the Arts London and of the 11 ISCA students on FAD Plus, 100% passed, of which 80% passed with Merit or Distinction. Well done!
